"Bread For Life..."

A Gleaning Ministry for Aging in Place Seniors

Claudette Fiskin, M.S.W., Director

email: bread4life.ministry@gmail.com

OUR MISSION

The Mission of "Bread for Life..." A Gleaning Ministry is to fulfill Corporal Works of Mercy:

"Feed the Hungry...Give drink to the thirsty" (Matthew 25:34-40)

This is fulfilled in a systematic manner with full knowledge and understanding that doing such works are considered part of the minimum requirements for Christian discipleship.

GLEANING

Gleaning is the ancient practice of harvesting, collecting and gathering leftover or unsold produce from farmers' fields.  "Bread for Life's..." gleaning methods are conducted within the spirit of this practice in the modern marketplace through Ministry gleaning partner relationships and volunteer staff.

AGING IN PLACE

Research indicates an overwhelming number of seniors, including 87% of disabled seniors, want to receive their long-term care services (funded by Medicare/Medicaid) "in place" meaning in their own home or other independent living arrangements, as opposed to assisted living or nursing facilities.

For these individuals, "Bread for Life..." strives to bring the marketplace to them by providing an easily accessible senior-friendly venue where seniors (Ministry participants) are welcomed to pick up their own food and sundry items with the help of friendly and well-trained volunteers who provide hospitality and positive social interaction. OR ...designated helpers can pick up and home deliver program products as needed.
